AUDIO CASSETTE TRANSFER

How long do analog video and audio tapes last?

As suggested by longevity research done on a wide range of video/audio tapes by the National Media Laboratory, the National Bureau of Standards, and manufacturers Sony and Fuji, the research generally indicates that magnetic tapes (like VHS, Hi8, audio cassettes etc.) stored well will experience 10-20% signal loss purely from magnetic remanence decay after 10-25 years.

While losing 20% is not losing the the entire picture or audio, the sooner your video and audio tapes are digitized the more signal can be preserved. Everyone has home movies, weddings, graduations, and even cassettes of their glory days playing music in a band. Enjoy your memories in the highest quality possible and have them digitally transferred to DVD, CD, and hard drive!

Which formats can be transferred?

We currently transfer VHS, S-VHS, 8mm/Hi-8 videotapes, and standard audio cassettes using professional hi-fidelity playback and editing equipment.

How long do you retain the files from my transfer?

Your files are gauranteed to be available for making extra copies and mastering for a minimum of 1 year.

On what type of media will I receive my transferred video/audio?

All video tapes are transferred to DVD-R media and customer supplied hard drive. Unless additional editing services are requested, DVD's will have your chosen description of the content printed on them, a single menu option with your chosen description for playback, and a single continuous file downloaded to your hard drive. Cases will have your chosen description of the content printed on insert sleeve.

All audio cassettes are transferred at 44.1 KHz/16 bit WAV format to CD-R and 48KHz/24 bit WAV format to customer supplied hard drive. Unless additional editing services are requested, CD's will have your chosen description of the content printed on them, a single track with your chosen description for playback, and a single continuous track downloaded to your hard drive. Cases will have your chosen description of the content printed on insert sleeve.

Do you offer additional editing services?

Yes. Also known as video restoration, we offer color correction, transitions, customized menus and customized cases at an extra charge. Audio cassettes can be broken down into individual tracks at an extra charge as well.

Can't I do my own transfer with a VHS to DVD multi-unit or a USB quick converter?

Absolutely! Some find this to be an acceptable way if they have the time and know-how. However, the difference in final quality between video captured with these units and video captured with professional playback equipment will be noticeable. These units simply can't compete for many reasons. Because signal preservation is critical with older media it is important to utilize the right equipment.

How much do these services cost?

Download to client supplied USB/hard drive is included with all services and a detailed price list is found below.
